The title page notes the society was founded in 5631 (1881). [Image 1]
The two entries are endorsements of the society by two tsadikim (i.e., righteous men), namely the following Ḥasidic Rebbes: Rabbi David, son of Rabbi Shlomoh, dated 22 Ḥeshvan, 5645 (November 10, 1884), and Rabbi David, son of Rabbi Yoḥanan [Twersky of Zlatopolye, died 1914], dated 14 Shvat, 5643 (January 22, 1883). The transcriber notes that in the original pinkas only the signatures of the tsadikim are their own and not the text. [Image 3]
A product of a cooperative agreement between the Russian National Library and Touro University’s Project Zikaron in 2019. This pinkas is part of the Günzburg Manuscript Collection at the Russian National Library in Moscow. In the 1890s, Baron David Günzburg of St. Petersburg, Russia hired Avraham Sharfshteyn to arrange for the original pinkas and others like it to be transcribed for his private library. The current location of the original pinkas is unknown, if it at all still exists. This overview was prepared by Rabbi Yitzchok Stroh of Brooklyn, New York, in 2020.
