The author Gussie Kimball's parents were Charles (Shie) and Rose Glickman. Gussie arrived in New York on January 17, 1902 on the S.S. Pennsylvania. The ship manifest states that the family was from Bielgodorodka in the Tsarist-Russian province of Volhynia (now Bilohorodka, Ukraine). Though on p. 19 she writes that her family came from "Russian Poland," Volhynia and other parts of the Ukraine were referred to as Poland in Yiddish.
