This book gives detailed profiles of Jewish institutes and leaders, both men and women, of Philadelphia. It is perhaps the only book published in American which provides the original surnames of the living Eastern European immigrants it profiles. It also is unique in its mentioning the age at which each individual stopped receiving a full-time traditional education, whether it was in a kheyder or yeshiva. Sadly, the impoverished parents of the majority of these individuals could only afford to provide them with such a robust Jewish eduction until age thirteen.
