On p. 69, the author writes that at his parents' wedding there was "the professional jester, or the Chale Besetzer." He is referring to a kale-bazetser. The bazetsns in Yiddish was the part of the wedding consisting of singing to the bride (kale) as she sits on a symbolic throne before being led under the wedding conopy. Hence, a kale-bazetser was the person who did the singing at the bazetsns.
