The Vaad Hatzala (Rescue Committee) was an organization established in 1939 by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada to rescue European Jews from the Holocaust. At the end of World War II, it provided help to the survivors. This book documents the important work of the Vaad Hatzala with reproductions of hundreds of photographs and letters by the Department of State, War Department, Navy Department, and others. The photographs depict its newly established orphanages, schools, yeshivas, and other institutions along with the survivors and their leadership in the DP (displaced persons) camps in Germany and Austria. It is considered the best photo-illustrated documentary history of Jews in the DP camps in which they lived and worked. Note that there are spelling errors in the names of localities.
