Project Zikaron is the only institution digitizing the many memorial books published, particularly since the 1980s, by German state and local archives. This book, Die jüdischen Gemeinden in Württemberg und Hohenzollern: Denkmale, Geschichte, Schicksale (The Jewish Communities in Württemberg und Hohenzollern: Monuments, History, and Fates), documents Jewish life in 96 cities, towns, and villages in the state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in southern Germany. Many such works include in their titles the words “Gedenkbuch” (Memorial Book) or “Die jüdischen Opfer des Nationalsozialismus” (Jewish Victims of Nazism) and largely consist of short biographies of all its citizens murdered during the Holocaust.
